Randolph Project: Roof Structural Retrofit
- Project Name: PUREX and B-Plant Facility OverBuild
- Location: Hanford Nuclear Reservation - 45 Miles North of Richland, WA
- Client: Fluor Hanford
- Contract: $2.23 Million (Fixed Price)
- Work Performed: Design Build - Structural Overbuild System
Description
Design and construct a structural retrofit roof enclosure for the PUREX and B-Plant facilities on the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. The buildings totaled over 145,000 square feet of structure above Class II Nuclear facilities.
What made this project unique was the extremely tight schedule, lifting constraints and the radiological issues. The project was delayed by a tenant turn over issue for two months. The previous facility manager had not adequately analyzed the safety risks associated with the work which further delayed the project. When Randolph was finally allowed to perform the work the logistics and methods of lifting equipment allowed were seriously constrained. This increased the man power and equipment requirements, but reduced the available days to complete the project. The Randolph team developed multiple special lifting plans, schedules and training of a new specialized craft team in order to ensure completion of the project within the original contract time requirements. Over 10,000 craft man hours were performed in 9 weeks, with a perfect safety record.
Randolph was named SBA Spokane District Subcontractor of the Year for our successful efforts in completing this project.
